Tour Stop 7: 795 Grant Street

Rebecca Schultz, Jiva Ahrens, and son Ollie

The former home of the proprietors of what was once a grocery next door, the house is estimated to have been built between 1900 and 1910. Rebecca and Jiva were drawn to it because they wanted the vacant store and learned that the two were a package deal – to buy one, they had to buy both. So that’s what they did.

And what a great idea that proved to be! Much of the details they love about the former store are also present in their home – the original panel doors, windows, fireplaces, and high ceilings. The floor plan is original, but the kitchen, bathrooms, and front porch are all new. They had to fully replace the mechanical systems, but through it all, they worked hard to restore what they could and preserve the character of the space, consulting with Brandied History, a preservation consulting service.
