Tour Stop Four: 627 Boulevard Southeast
Craig and Debbie Eckstrom
In 1909, it was reported in the newspaper that the owner of this Queen Anne Cottage, then only eight years old, was going to sell her "lovely home, situated on the prettiest elevated corner lot overlooking Grant Park.” The current owners affirm that their view of the park is indeed one of their favorite things about the home.
The Eckstroms got way more than what they were looking for in a home, especially with their son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter living right down the street. They love the stained glass, tin ceilings, entry foyer and outdoor space. The fireplaces and tile in the foyer, office, and master bedroom are all original, as are both exterior doors on the front porch and all the doors on the main floor (notice the low door knobs and key holes.)
“We love how the previous owners mixed original fixtures and modern touches, like the knobs on the black kitchen cabinets,” says Debbie. “They created so much character here that inspired our choices as we added art and other finishes.”
