For more than 30 years, Grant Park has celebrated the December holidays with the Grant Park Candlelight Tour of Homes providing Atlanta and surrounding communities with a unique glimpse into the historic intown neighborhood. Held in the evening with the glow of holiday lights, the Candlelight Tour is a great way to see the neighborhood and at the same time, get into the holiday spirit.
Grant Park is Atlanta’s largest historic district with homes built in the Victorian, Craftsman, Italianate and various other styles from the turn of the 20th century. The Candlelight Tour features eight to ten homes each year, usually representing historic renovations as well as new homes built to reflect the historic district’s character. Also on the tour is St. Paul United Methodist Church. The church’s beautiful Neo-Romanesque sanctuary is admired by tour-goers for its soaring stained glass windows and pipe organ from the 1880s.
Tour-goers are encouraged to come an hour early each evening to St. Paul United Methodist Church which houses the ticket booth and serves as the first stop on the tour. Here you may find that special, out-of-the-ordinary gift at the Artist Market which is returning to the area just off the sanctuary. It will be open from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Saturday and 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Sunday. Also on Saturday, families can visit Santa at the church and then join a caroling hayride that will make its way to some of the tour homes.
At 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, visitors will enjoy the fabulous St. Paul choir perform a Candlelight Christmas Concert. Each night features a bake sale and complimentary hot apple cider and hot chocolate to keep tour goers nice and warm.
As you visit and learn about each house, you’ll appreciate the unique style each home brings to the neighborhood. Some exhibit many years of tender loving care by only a handful of homeowners, while others have been bought back from the brink of destruction through visionary and historically-conscious renovations. Either way, restoration, redecoration and good ole’ holiday spirit will fill the air as you journey through our little place in time here in downtown Atlanta.
Thanks to participating sponsors and hundreds of ticket sales, each year this festive holiday celebration provides funds to three of Grant Park’s community-enriching non-profits:
