Alex and Stephanie Cone, along with their two- year-old dog Pringle (a Coton de Tulear) and four-month-old Kenan (a Goldendoodle), have only been Grant Parkers a few months. After having spent the better part of the last decade in Buckhead, they decided this past summer that they wanted to find “a neighborhood that felt like a neighborhood” while still being near the heart of the city. “We loved the park itself and the character and charm of the beautiful homes,” said Alex.
Started in 2002, this newer, single-story Neo-Craftsman was abandoned just when it was nearly complete. It then sat vacant for years before being put back on the market as a foreclosure this past spring, when neighborhood rehabber, Greenstone Design, snapped it up and gave it a complete overhaul. The open floor plan was enhanced with modern finishes and a splash of classic charm like sleek, yet simple light fixtures, new crown molding and a sea glass backsplash to match the cool granite counter tops. When the rehab was almost done, the couple took a sneak peek with their real estate agent before the house was officially back on the market, and in the blink of an eye they were new homeowners.
“The house was move-in ready and it was everything we were looking for,” said Stephanie. “We knew the wall space and the light in the house was going to be perfect for our always-growing art collection.”
While some of the pieces you’ll see tonight are from national artists, many were acquired at the Art Papers Auction held annually at Mason Murer Gallery and the Trash to Treasure event which benefits the Atlanta Beltline. A piece to definitely take note of is the antique faucet with blown glass “drips” hanging in the kitchen eat-in area. Several pieces of furniture in the home are custom-made by local craftspeople as well, such as the dresser in the guest bedroom, the "Apothecurio" by local artists Union Eighteen, and the custom farm table made by Rustic Trades in North Atlanta.
While their home décor highlights local talent, their flair for travel is expressed through their holiday decorations. In fact, their Christmas tree is filled with ornaments from every place in the world they’ve visited.
Step out on the back deck tonight and you’ll notice that the couple have completed “Phase I” of their landscaping project with newly planted trees and freshly laid sod in their spacious, enclosed backyard. “Phase II” this spring will include even more plantings both in the front and back yards.
Alex and Stephanie are so excited to meet new friends and neighbors on their very first Candlelight Tour this year, and welcome you with warm greetings on this special night.
